· A revolutionary poem ‘Soft Storm’ is composed by Abhi Subedi. The poem is a protest against the bad systems of society. The poem depicts the pathetic condition of people, malpractices etc. of our Nepalese Society. It has 8 stanzas.
· In the first stanza, the poet describes the crowded city and complains about it. He also compares Crocuses (Irish Flowering Plant) with the sky.
· He also complains about the posters posted on walls as well as the politics which gave us nothing.
· He explains his softness as a gale (strong current of air).
· Seamless City: The city that continued with problems rather than cleaning them.
· In the second stanza, he talks about the homeless children in Thamel. They are crying because
they have nothing to eat. They are hungry and poor, no one helps them.
· And the other side is shown as somebody is dancing/ enjoying their life with mad steps of the dance. It means some people are crying because they have nothing but instead of helping them many people like enjoying parties in tall skyscrapers.
· Children are called the pillar of the nation who is broken.
· Family – oriented politics rather than on common people.
· Lawless society is running with harshness.
· This stanza depicts the pathetic condition of homeless, poor, and hungry people too.
· Poet also talks about the power of pen and paper as well he tries to tell us that writing words on paper cannot bring change overnight.
· He also explains the homeless, sad, forlorn child carrying a transistor radio searching for his mother. It indicates the quest/ search for success that happens in our city every day. Many people carry certificates and they keep searching for a good job/ salary/ position but the system is too bad for giving us the facility.
· He also explains the man who is beaten in spite of being guilty. And today’s/ nowadays time is told as ‘no sensible time’, it means no one cares for nobody.
· The poet is unhappy with the harsh reality, ignorance, and indifference and he is protesting society having these bad qualities.
· War and class subjection are criticized here. He has given images like blood-stained shirts, and bruised lips of a man which shows that our society is full of criminal activities, discrimination, conflicts, etc.
· Game of hide and seek.
· This stanza is about the promises made by the governments/ system/ politicians.
· They always make false promises, they always give us a bad cheque where the amount is written but cannot be withdrawn.
· They never keep/ complete their promises.
· So he wants to threaten the system and said if they couldn’t keep promises they would have to be ready for Leela (divine/ heavenly done).
· A revolution, against bad politicians.
· He is showing positivity (optimism) in this stanza.
· He explains how crocuses (revolutions) have grown over the stone (suppression).
· He also says that storms are loitered (silenced) in the street where he had cried in rain observing the misbehaviours of people to their nation. He inherited soft.
· Poet also wants to share the bitter reality of the street. Many freedom fighters have been killed in the street from the history.
· Poet talks about the sunlight which has made the place bright, sunshine can not be silenced.
· He also talks about his soft storm that was from the silent page/ stone, silent wardresses, destruction of god’s property, and, the courtyard which has suppressed the freedom and rights of people and buried them.
· In this stanza, he is demanding no social restrictions and freedom for all creatures, plants, etc.
· He talks about some more things:
o blindness is respected
o new time weaving all people together
o stones are growing flowers
o moon humming melodies
o history travelling through lampposts
o deforested land
o sad singing of birds
o flower blooming in the winter
· All these events make him soft.
· In this hard time, in this bad time, in this harsh condition he wants to be a rainbow and he likes to give happiness to people.
· His soft storm will rise over the sky (no boundaries)
· His soft storm will form waves from ripples (drip) in the uneasy lake (Harsh time) of humankind.
