Question Answers

1. Do you call Rakesh a devoted son? Give reasons.

->  Yes. I call Rakesh a devoted son because of following reasons.

  • He studies excellently understanding the situation and effort of his parents.
  • He becomes topper and a great doctor but he respects his parents and touches their feet.
  • He doesn’t stay in USA and returns to stay with his parents for their care.
  • He marries a girl selected by his mother even though she was fat and uneducated.
  • He gives time to everyone and separates time for his parents every day.
  • He brings tea for his father and reads news to him every morning and goes to check his father when he arrives home.
  • He gives his father proper medicines and prepares syrup for his father’s strong health.
  • He loves his father but had to be rude sometimes to his father to stop him from being weak by unhealthy foods.

In this way Rakesh can be called a devoted son who tried to make his parents’ life comfortable with his support when they needed it.

2. Are Mr. Verma's complaints about his diets reasonable? How?

->  I think Mr. Verma’s complaints about his diets are reasonable. It is because he was not enjoying the food he had been given. He was not given his favorite dishes. His food supply was totally supervised by his own son Rakesh who was a great doctor and surgeon. Rakesh loved his father and wanted to make him live a bit longer. So Rakesh ordered Veena to give limited food which can affect the health of Mr. Verma.

On the one hand his complaints are reasonable that he is already grown old. He helped his son Rakesh to study and Rakesh became a successful doctor. He had grandchildren too and wanted to spend his rest time enjoying his favourite foods. However, his complaints are unreasonable totally becasue he had to face some illness and stomach problems after not following his son’s advice.

3. Why did the old man try to bribe his grandchildren?

->  Old Verma was having diets strictly provided by his son. He used to miss his wife to whom he could order to prepare but he was unable to do so. In this case he bribed his grandchildren to buy sweets (Jalebes) to eat them secretly.
